What is the power cable test standard? Posted by : admin / Posted on : Jun 03, 2021

1. Test Standard
Taking the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards as a reference, formulate corresponding standards at all levels, such as national standards, industry standards or corporate standards. Some new products can initially be subject to corporate standards. In order to make the product quality meet the IEC standard as much as possible, the main test items to be carried out for various types of power cables.

2. Test content
The main items are electrical performance test and thermal performance test. If necessary, mechanical performance test and structural size inspection of the sheath shall be carried out. Electrical performance tests include conductive core DC resistance test, insulation DC resistance measurement, dielectric loss tangent (tgα) and capacitance measurement, insulation power frequency withstand voltage and DC withstand voltage test and partial discharge test.

3. Thermal performance test
Including thermal stability test, measurement of insulation loss tangent and insulation resistance at different temperatures, measurement of current carrying capacity, rapid aging life test, etc.

4. Test type
Power cable tests are divided into 4 categories.
① Routine test: the test that the manufacturer should carry out on all cable products, the purpose is to examine the overall performance of the cable, find the defects caused by accidental factors in the production process, and verify whether the product meets the design requirements.
② Sampling test: Sampling with certain statistical rules at regular intervals, and conducting proportional tests for more detailed test items, including destructive tests, with the same purpose as routine tests.
③ Type test: a test of a new product that is about to be put into production. Take the old product as a reference, examine the overall performance of the new product, and determine the quality and life of the new product in a relatively short period of time.
④ Post-laying handover test and operation supervision preventive test: check whether the cable is damaged during the installation and laying process; conduct regular tests during cable operation to monitor the quality of the cable during operation, so as to repair, replace, and ensure normal power supply in time.
